An Interview with Tiro, August 2026

How would you describe your sound?

It varies on my work, but I'd say Independent Rock with the occasional Synth Pop influence ringing in.

What does making music mean to you? What got you into it/keeps you continuing?

Making music is like therapy for me. Growing up, my dad would always play music like The Smiths, The Drums, and Joy Division, and that really is what got me into it. I keep continuing to make it because I feel it is the best way to express yourself and make art that helps resonate with those around you.

Tell me about Love and Misery!! What was the creative process behind it? What significance does it hold to you? Anything specific you wish to highlight about it?

Love and Misery is my latest release from July. I began working on it when I turned 18 as a way to write about my life right before college. Fast forward a year later, one breakup, and a terrible loneliness from being in my dorm all the time, "Love and Misery" arose from my creative forces.  To me, it is my most personal work yet.

How do you feel your sound has evolved since you first began making music? How has it evolved through the making of Love and Misery?

When I first started, I made very unproduced indie rock, a guitar playing the bassline and drums that had a very bad mix. Over time, I slowly learned to produce better and to be more emotionally resonant in my songwriting, which you can see in "Love and Misery".

How do you keep yourself motivated and inspired/how do you work through creative blocks?

I usually play video games like Sonic Adventure 2, Super Smash Bros Melee, and Animal Crossing to help me focus on other things, which in turn gives me more inspiration.

Tell me about your creative process!! Is it more organized & session based or more sporadic and fleeting?

Usually I demo it all out and make a rough draft of the song structure using loops, then I'll go ahead and re-record, adding more dynamics and vulnerability in my playing for the instrumentals. For the lyrics, most of the time I'll freestyle a melody and lyrics, and I'll go back later to redo them to fit the song better.

What are some of your rituals/inspirations when writing music? (do you listen/pull inspo from other artists? do you have a specific place you like to write at? etc.)

I like to isolate myself and listen to The Smiths, Enjambre, and The Drums. After that, I get into a really good instrumental headspace, and when I write vocals, I listen to the Beach Boys circa 1963-1970 to help me understand what some good inspiration for a chamber pop melody akin to Mac DeMarco.

Which song of yours do you consider to be your favorite? Why?

"Maria" by CafĂ© Tacvba. Even though it isn't indie rock, it always gets me in my feels because of the Maria character in the song and her feeling of regret.

No limitations, what is your biggest dream or goal for your music? (dream venue, project, benchmark, anything!)

In an Ideal world, I'd want my music to be popular and connect people. I'd want to be able to make my art and be able to spend time with my family. Venue-wise, well, if we are really dreaming, it would be the American Airlines Stadium.

What does the future hold/what are you working towards right now?

Right now, I am working towards finishing my Finance Degree, and possibly working on a more ambient rock album for Tiro. It is very much in the drafting stage right now. I'll might also be writing more songs for a short film, " A Friend is Quiet" by Natalia Jaramillo, which is coming out sometime in October or November.
