An Interview with Dllfces, August 2026
How would you describe your sound?
I guess I would describe my sound as indie, maybe bordering on indie rock on occasion.
Who/what inspires your music?
Honestly, I kind of inspire my own music. I listen to a lot of different genres of music, and although I look up to many very talented musicians, I am ultimately inspired by things I have experienced, dreams, and nightmares. That being said, I am inspired by other small indie artists giving it their all no matter their audience size.
What does making music mean to you?
Making music is everything to me. It’s the thing that gets me out of bed in the morning and the thing that keeps me focused. It’s a way to release the subconscious thoughts that I would otherwise let consume me.
What got you into it/keeps you continuing?
I’ve been doing it forever! Since I was a kid. My parents are both interested in music as well, and i’m sure that influenced me, but it has been a part of me since I was born. I don’t necessarily have a reason I continue, other than feeling like I need to. I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if not music.
Tell me about your debut EP!! What was the creative process behind it? What significance does it hold to you? Anything specific you wish to highlight about it?
I am so excited to have finally released my EP! I didn’t write all of these songs to go together on an EP originally; I put them all together after they were all written. However, I did write them all based on a theme, which was “The Lovers” tarot card. I didn’t know if I would ever be able to record them, as I am, for lack of better term, broke as hell. Thankfully I was able to find a great producer who was willing to work with my budget (and my pickiness) and I think we came up with something great!
This EP means a lot to me, every song was written in a vulnerable and honest state. All in all, the EP is about the highs and lows of love, choice, and heartbreak.
How do you feel your sound, ideas, process, etc. has evolved through the making of this EP?
I kept this EP acoustic because I knew that people who found me through social media would like it that way. I also felt the raw nature would help portray the emotions I was feeling during the writing of it. I do think i’d like to venture out a bit…i’ve always wanted to be a rockstar.
How do you keep yourself motivated and inspired/how do you work through creative blocks?
When i’m having a creative block, I usually take a day or two to rest, do something fun like play a video game or watch some movies, and not think about music for a bit. Although it’s difficult for me to not think about my music, I feel like it helps me to take a break every now and again so I can jump back in feeling refreshed. If i sit down to write and I really cannot think of anything, I write down a single word, and I build my song around that word. It’s important to be honest with yourself when writing music. Most of the time, I don’t set out to write a song about a specific thing; It happens as i’m writing.
What is your creative process like? Is it more organized & session based or more sporadic and fleeting?
Definitely more impulsive! Sometimes I think, “I should probably write something today”. Most of the time, though, I just have an idea or feel a certain way and go for it. I’m a very emotional person and I think that helps my creative process.
When writing, are there any themes or ideas that you keep pulling from/coming back to? What are they?
Sex, religion, suicide, and drugs. Most of my songs can be split into one of these categories…not purposely, but it happens regardless (haha). I do write a lot about heartbreak and secrecy, but those could maybe fit into one of the above categories.
Which song of yours do you consider to be your favorite? Why?
My favorite song i’ve written is my song “Encore!” which hasn’t been released yet, but i’m thinking of recording it next. Out of the released songs, I think “Seven Minutes” is my favorite in terms of sound, and “Read Between” is my favorite in lyricism. “Seven Minutes” did best on social media and was probably the catchiest one, but “Read Between” means a lot to me lyrically.
No limitations, what is your biggest dream or goal for your music? (dream venue, project, benchmark, anything!)
Genuinely, my biggest goal is to go on tour. I’d also love to open for other artists, be able to release a full length studio album, and be invited to music awards. I’ve always wanted to play at a music festival as well. Not music related, but i’ve always wanted to be on Vogue’s “Beauty Secrets”, even though i’m not good at makeup…at all.
What does the future hold/what are you working towards right now?
Right now, i’m just trying to book some shows. I’d like to get working on my next release, but money is tight and I need to take a minute to work on that. I’m not sure what the future holds, but as long as people are listening, i’ll be playing.
